Lifestyle of Sujangarh

Sujangarh is a simple, well cultured city in Rajasthan, where lifestyle is sober and when it comes to entertainment and nightlife the local folks have typical ways of doing it. Shopping is another interesting element for the tourists in Sujangarh apart from sight-seeing. Jewelry and many other handicraft articles come at decent price range and in exciting variety. 

The residences of Sujangarh tend to have a simple routine and like to begin their day very early in the morning. They usually make their living via manufacturing silver and gold, as well as handicraft. When it comes to attire, they prefer comfort clothing, as men and women of Sujangarh are spotted mostly in cotton. Of course, cotton fabric is breathable and comfy for a humid weather in a desert area like Sujangarh. People here are found very friendly and they are generous to offer free food and stay to the passing-by tourists and they are very good guides too. People in Sujangarh believe to live in joint families and when it comes to festivals, the residents assemble in huge numbers as they love to celebrate together. 

The fun element is at its peak during the times of camel fare, where the society of Sujangarh gathers, all dressed-up in their traditional, colorful clothes. They play dandia, perform folk dance in groups, along with folk songs. The folk dance has an interesting costume which is a combination of hand-made embroidery and mirror work paired with traditional jewelry completes the look. The regional dance called ‘the matka dance’ is performed by placing a pile of clay pots on head. The real task is to balance and not to slip the pots while dancing. The folk instruments such as surmai, sarangi, dhol and drum are used at the time of dandia and matka dance which goes on day and night. 

Bird fight is the regional sport which excites most of the visitors in the camel fare as it is a rare sport and is also illegal. The birds are specially trained for these tournaments. Kho-kho and kabbadi are other sports enjoyed by Sujangarh city, while Pittu Garam (Seven Stones), the street-sport, is enjoyed by the children. 

Sujangarh is famous for hand-made silver and gold ornaments; they specialize in making beautiful bronze and clay utensils. Their skill of carving wooden furniture is well known across the world. Foreign tourists flock from around the world to Sujangarh with the particular aim of amassing the jewelry and other handicrafts.
